Wenonah Family Night a big success

wenonah2More than 150 members of the Wenonah Elementary School family turned out for the Wenonah Family Night at the Waynesboro YMCA on Jan. 29.

“That’s huge,” said Wenonah principal Rebecca Jarvis. “We have a relatively small school population, but we had a great turnout. We had a lot of students and families, and we had a lot of staff as well.”

The event gave the Wenonah family an opportunity to learn more about the YMCA and what it has to offer in terms of facilities and programs.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to promote healthy living and nutrition and exercise so we can work on childhood obesity and getting kids out and being active. This was a great way for us to do that,” Jarvis said.

“It was great having access to the Y for our families who aren’t members or maybe haven’t been to the gym in a while, so they can get a sense of what programs are offered and what is available there,” Jarvis said.

Wanda Hulse left the Y the night of Jan. 29 as the winner of a free year’s family membership. Hulse said her children, Fabian, 5, a kindergartner, and Coraleigh, 8, a third-grader, will help her put the Y membership to good use.

“It’s great. The kids can go swimming. Especially my daughter. She really wants us all to go swimming. And I enjoy working out. They have the Nautilus and the swimming and the weight room and the classes. I’m really looking forward to it,” Hulse said.
