Y executive director ready for
competition at Taste of the Town

Y executive director Jeff Fife is ready for the best that Boys and Girls Club executive director Tyrell McElroy can bring to the table.

“I wouldn’t actually call it a competition – it’s more like taking candy from a baby. Ty couldn’t carry my spatula,” said Fife, cooking up some competition ahead of the 11th annual Taste of the Town, a fundraising event for Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc.

The Tuesday, March 22 event is set for 5-8 p.m. at the Waynesboro Country Club. One of the highlights of the event will be the competition between Fife and McElroy for the “Best Culinary Kids” trophy.

Fife is enlisting some expert help. Former Y board president Schuyler Giles is assisting Fife in producing a healthy and economical alternative to crab cakes.

Here’s the recipe for Poor Man’s Crab Cakes.

  • 2 c. zucchini, shredded
  • 1 c. Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/2-3/4 tbsp. Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. mustard
  • 4 pinches of love

“I encourage our membership to take part in the great event to support our downtown and watch me take the ‘Best Culinary Kids’ trophy,” Fife said.

Y members can get tickets to the Taste of the Town event at the front desk.
