Sen. Warner to tour Waynesboro Y on Friday

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner will visit the Waynesboro YMCA on Friday, March 2, to get a tour of the $100,000 thermal-solar installation project at the Y and be briefed on the details of the project by officials from the Y and project partner Sigora Solar.

The project is the largest thermal-solar installation in the state of Virginia. The panels being installed will save the YMCA more than $13,000 a year in energy costs.

After the tour of the solar project, Warner will participate in Read Across America Day by reading selections from the works of Dr. Seuss to children in the Y’s preschool program.

SMAC competes at District Swim Meet in Roanoke

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club, which practices at the Waynesboro Y, competed in the Virginia Swimming District Championships in Roanoke Virginia Feb. 17-19.

The meet was open to all swimmers in the Southwest District in Virginia. The meet is geared for younger swimmers (14 and under) and swimmers who are trying to obtain qualifying times to be eligible to compete in the Regional Meet the following weekend or the State Championship Meet in early March. Monday, February 20th – Y opening delayed to 7am

The Y is going to open at 7am on Monday.  The pool won’t be open until 8am and Child Care won’t begin until 9am (Childcare field trip is cancelled – kids please pack a lunch).  Morning group fitness classes, morning water aerobics, and morning child watch is canceled.  Check our Facebook page for updates throughout the day!  Be safe.

SMAC Brings 65 Kids to Virginia Y Champs

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club, which practices at the Waynesboro Y, competed in the Virginia Y Championships held in Lynchburg on Feb. 12.

The Virginia Y Champs is open to all YMCA teams in Virginia. Y teams make up approximately 30 percent of the swimmers in the state. There are numerous teams that operate out of a public pool and several that own and operate their own pool that do not practice at a Y. Read more

Be Heart Healthy During American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month and as a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through healthy living, the Waynesboro Family YMCA urges everyone in Waynesboro and Eastern Augusta Area to take steps to prevent chronic diseases, such as heart disease, so they can lead longer, healthier lives.

To address the prevalence of heart disease in the United States, the Y made a commitment to the Million Hearts campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that aims to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years.
