SMAC Attends Hokie Invitational

Marrie backThe Waynesboro Year Round Competitive Swim Team, SMAC, (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) competed at the Hokie Invitational Swim Meet in Christiansburg Nov. 8-10.  Teams from northern Virginia to North Carolina attended the meet.

SMAC is comprised of male and female swimmers starting with the Mini Marlins Group with kids as young as 4 years old through the National Training Group with kids up to seniors in high school.  SMAC has a long tradition of expecting excellence from their swimmers in and out of the pool.  SMAC brought 42 of their more experienced swimmers to compete in Christiansburg.

The following 42 swimmers attended the meet:  Nicolas Aldridge (10), Jessica Arnold (16), Bobby Carey (16), Megan Cross (8), Michael Dukes (13), Alice Elkins (10), Braelin Fauber (12), McKina Fitzgerald (14),  Miles Fitzgerald (10), Alexander Flowers (15), Grace Hardiman (10), Colleen Higgins (15), Emma Hill (12), Sydney Hill (8), Taylor Hubbard (13), Norah Hunt (15), Carson Lawhorne (9), Sarah Loomis (13), Davis Mckellop (8), Hunter McMillon (16), Matthew Mercer (11), Ryan Mercer (9), Justin Merritt (16), Jordan Miller (15), Cameron Murie (12), Rachel Murie (10), Ella Pickering (12), Clara Riggan (11), Maggie Riggan (14), Remedy Rule (17), Charlotte Rumsey (13), Jackson Schundler (9), Elle Schundler (7), Haley Sheffield (8), Hanna Shifflett (12), Tate Snyder (12), Kristen Wagner (11), Keelin Wolfe (16), Emma Woodworth (11), Ben Young (10), Libby Young (13) and Jake Zamalis, (16).

There were well over 100 personal best times recorded from the SMAC Swim Team.  Those swimmers with at least 5 best times were: Aldridge (6), Fauber (7), McKinna Fitzgerald (6), Miles Fitzgerald (8), Flowers (5), Hardiman (8), E. Hill (8), Hubbard (8), Loomis (7), H. McMillion (5), C. Murie (8), Pickering (11), C. Riggan (7), M. Riggan (6), C. Schundler (5), Shifflett (11), Wagner (9), B. Young (6) and Zamalis (5).

SMAC showed that their early season training is getting them in great shape by how well everyone did in the 500 free.  Rule and Arnold placed 1st and 2nd in the girls 15 and over age group, Rumsey and Loomis placed 1st and 2nd in the girls 13/14 age group, Shifflett placed 3rd for 12 year old girls, Woodworth paced 3rd for 11 year old girls, McMillion placed 3rd for 15 and over boys and C. Schundler placed 3rd for 9 year old boys.   Other 3 finishes for the following swimmers included: Fauber – (2nd 50 back & 50 fly and 3rd 100 back), Miles Fitzgerald – (3rd in 50 free, 50 breast and 100 fly), Loomis – (1st 1000 free), McKellop (3rd 50 free & 1st 50 breast), Rule – 1st (50 free, 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 back, 200 IM and 400 IM), Rumsey –  (3rd 100 fly, 2nd 400 IM), Sheffield (3rd 100 free, 100 back, 100 fly and 1st 200 back) and Wagner (3rd 50 breast, 100 free, 2nd 200 free, 50 back, 50 fly and 100 fly).

SMAC will be hosting the Fall Invitational at the Waynesboro Y November 23 and 24 and the swimmers will be gearing up to swim fast in their home pool.  The next meet after that will be the Christmas Meet in Pittsburgh, PA.
