SMAC swimmer Remedy Rule competed against some of the best swimmers in the country this past weekend at the AT&T USA Swimming Winter Nationals at the University of Tennessee.

Winter Nationals is open to anyone reaching the qualifying time standard.  There were age group swimmers similar to Rule that were still in high school, collegiate swimmers and professional swimmers at the meet.  Rule swam four events in the meet (100 & 200 fly, 200 free and 200 back) and swam fast enough to return to swim in finals at night in three of her four events.

Rule started off with a best time in her 100 fly and won the consolation finals to finish in 17th place.  Her time of 53.58 set a new Virginia swimming record.  The previous record was set by Whitney Hedgepath in 1985.  Rule finished with a best time of 1:48.35 in the 200 free for a 22nd place finish.  She felt she could have gone faster, but was still a little tight from her 100 fly that preceded the 200 free.

In the last event of the competition, the 200 butterfly, she was competing in the A finals against several 2012 Olympians.  She finished in 5th place overall and also received an award as the 18 and under National Champion in the event.

This weekend SMAC travels to Pittsburgh to compete in the 52nd annual University of Pittsburgh Christmas meet.
