Waynesboro YMCA Childcare

Philosophy and Program Goals

Y Childcare is an exciting, safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, and make lasting friendships and memories. Our purpose is to present a high-quality, age-appropriate, fun program while promoting healthy lifestyles, strengthening family relationships, and developing leadership qualities and social responsibility.

Program Goals:

1. To provide an environment where all children feel cared for, supported, appreciated and safe

2. To develop the inner strength and character of all children

3. To increase the physical fitness of all children

4. To strengthen the interpersonal and social skills of all children

5. To instill an appreciation for diversity in all children

6. To model the importance of the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and inclusion

Preschool

Our full day preschool program offers potty-trained children ages 3-5 an exciting introduction to school. We use the STREAMin3 Curriculum which provides developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning experiences. Our program is also enriched with water play, an outdoor classroom space, library visits, field trips, sports, and much more. We participate in the Mixed Delivery Grant which provides free preschool to qualifying families.

In addition, we provide an afterschool Preschool Program for students attending the Wayne Hills Preschool Program.

Afterschool

Our afterschool program picks up students from all Waynesboro City Elementary Schools (minimum of 5 students per school). We offer gym and outdoor play, homework time, arts and crafts, games and center play. Full daycare is offered on teacher workdays, holidays, and inclement weather days for students in grades K-5. We also sponsor afterschool programs at the Y Site and Westwood Hills Elementary School.

Summer Camp

We offer a full-day summer program at both the Y site (10 weeks) and the Westwood site (9 weeks). Our summer program, which is a full summer commitment, is a great time for fun, sunshine, and friendships! We offer field trips, swimming, storytelling, arts and crafts, games, sports, outdoor play, and more. This program is for children who have completed Kindergarten-5th grade. We offer a sliding-scale scholarship. We accept subsidies at our Y site only. All registrations are done in person at the Y.
