Sports Director

The Waynesboro Family YMCA is looking for an energetic and professional individual to run all our Sports Programming at the Y.

Job Description

Develops, organizes and implements high quality youth and adult sports programs at the Waynesboro Family YMCA.  Waynesboro is quiet town nestled in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley shadowed by the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains where quality living is affordable.  Our Y is small/medium sized Y with an annual operating budget of 1.4 million.  We are a fun place to be healthy!

The Y is debt free with a growing endowment and about to undergo a significant renovation.  The Sports Director would oversee all sports programming at our Y and have the encouragment to create, innovate, and motivate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of online training: Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips and Falls, Unlawful Harassment Prevention, Child Abuse Test.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

Essential Functions

  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Recruits, trains and develops sports program staff and volunteers
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
  • Organizes and hosts season parties and events, promoting healthy eating and good nutrition.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Monitors and evaluates quality of the sports program.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events including sponsors for sports teams.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Leads assigned aspects of the Annual Support Campaign

$33,000.00 – $38,000.00

Afterschool Teachers

Childcare is now hiring lead teachers for afterschool.  Must be 18 years of age or older and have 1000 hours programmatic experience. Pay starts at $8.25 per hour and is based on experience. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred, but we will provide training. Applications can be picked up at the front desk at anytime. Please request a childcare application.

Afterschool Bus Driver

Childcare has an immediate position available for an afterschool bus driver. Hours will typically be 2:15-3:30, Monday-Friday.  Interested applicants will need to pick up an application from the front desk and provide a copy of their driving record.  Pay is $9 per hour.  Drivers will be required to take CPR/First Aid and the VA Preservice Training within 1 month of being hired. Group Fitness Instructors

Group Fitness Instructor: Willing to sub a variety of classes including piyo, indoor cycling, kettle bell, or basic group conditioning classes. AFFA or ACE certification preferred. Willing to train or help certify if interested.

Corporate Wellness Fitness Instructor: General group fitness certifications required. AFFA or ACE would be preferable. Willing to train or help certify if needed.

 

Head Lifeguard (Part Time)

Responsible for the timely opening of the pool for early morning swimming, the safety of all swimmers, and the appearance of the pool and deck area.

Job Functions:

  1. Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
  2. Be an active leader in membership retention goals and in the annual giving campaign.
  3. Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
  4. Promote, foster and support the Y’s commitment to access, inclusion and engagement for all by engaging diverse populations in a welcoming environment.
  5. Responsible for the safety of all individuals who enter the pool area.
  6. Knowledgeable in emergency procedures set forth by the Waynesboro YMCA.
  7. Attend all scheduled meetings and monthly in-service trainings set forth by the Aquatic Director in accordance with the Waynesboro YMCA standards.
  8. Responsible for relating to the members in a professional manner.
  9. Responsible for testing and recording the chlorine and pH levels as determined by the supervisor in accordance with the local, state and Waynesboro YMCA standards.
  10. Responsible for recording and reporting all accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor.
  11. Knowledgeable, with the ability to communicate the pool schedule and program activities.
  12. Responsible for understanding the use, maintenance and upkeep of equipment used in the aquatics facility. Report any concerns and issues to the aquatic supervisor on duty.
  13. Responsible for keeping pool area safe, clean and orderly.
  14. May be involved with the branch’s Annual Giving Staff Campaign.
  15. Duties may include assisting the Aquatics Director with creating monthly lifeguard schedules, pool audits, chemical testing/balancing, and in-service trainings.
  16. Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the Aquatics Director, or Association Aquatics Director, based on the needs of the branch.
  17. May assist Aquatics Director by serving as on-call Lifeguard during absence of Aquatics Director, or substituting for other Lifeguards as needed.

 

Lifeguard I (Part Time)

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator, the lifeguard is responsible for the safety of the members and program participants.

Job Functions:

  2. Be an active leader in membership retention goals and in the annual giving campaign.

Swim Instructor I  (Part Time)

Responsible for the planning and implementation of swim lessons according to Waynesboro YMCA policies and guidelines.

Job Functions:

  1. Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
  2. Be an active leader in membership retention goals and in the annual giving campaign.
  3. Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
  4. Promote, foster and support the Y’s commitment to access, inclusion and engagement for all by engaging diverse populations in a welcoming environment.
  5. Enforce all rules and regulations regarding aquatic safety as set forth by the Waynesboro YMCA.
  6. Prepare a lesson plan prior to the start of class.
  7. Teach assigned classes while providing instruction and supervision on proper form and technique including safety on aquatic training and aquatic fitness equipment.
  8. Responsible for recording progress of each individual within the class on the appropriate report forms and submit them to his/her supervisor at the end of each session. Progress cards or certifications must be completed for each individual within the class as specified by the Aquatic Director.
  9. Assist with the clean-up of facilities and equipment at the end of each class.
  10. Must attend all training events and meetings as assigned by supervisor.

 

Private Lesson Instructor I (Part Time)

Responsible for conducting private swim lessons, including planning, scheduling, communications with facility staff and families, and instructing lesson.

Job Functions:

  1. Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
  2. Be an active leader in membership retention goals and in the annual giving campaign.
  3. Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
  4. Promote, foster and support the Y’s commitment to access, inclusion and engagement for all by engaging diverse populations in a welcoming environment.
  5. Enforce all rules and regulations regarding safety as set forth by the Waynesboro YMCA.
  6. Prepare a lesson plan prior to start of class.
  7. Establish goals based on participants’ needs.
  8. Teach assigned classes while providing instruction and supervision on proper form and technique including safety on aquatic training and aquatic fitness equipment.
  9. Responsible for scheduling, communicating and planning private swim lesson with participant under the direction of the Aquatic Director.
  10. Responsible for recording progress of each individual within the class on the appropriate report forms and submit them to his/her supervisor at the end of each session. Progress cards or certifications must be completed for each individual as specified by the Aquatic Director.
  11. Assist with the clean- up of facilities and equipment at the end of each class as specified by the Aquatic Director.
  12. Must attend all training events and meetings as assigned by supervisor.
