Group Fitness

groupfitnessThe Waynesboro Family YMCA Group Fitness Classes are co-ed and designed to fit all levels and ages. These classes are free with your membership. All “Y” instructors are certified in group fitness exercise through a nationally recognized certification organization. Cancellations for group fitness are posted on the Y’s Facebook page. We recommend you consult our Facebook page when possible before heading to class!

 

 

Classes

ADAPTIVE CIRCUIT TRAINING
This one-hour class takes participants through a total body workout circuit style. Stations for cardio, strength, balance and core training. Designed for participants 11-18 years old and for developmentally delayed individuals without physical limitations.

BARRE
This 45-50 minute class is about the physical as well as the aesthetic benefits of lengthening muscles while strengthening them. Combines pilates, youga and ballet moves to give you beautiful lean muscles. The Barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training combined with high reps of small range of motion movement. Light weights, gliding disks and bender balls may be used, as well as mats for the warm up and targeted core work.

BODY SCULPT
This is a strength-conditioning class with concentration on function and fitness using a variety of equipment.

CARDIO SCULPT
A cardio-based class mixed with intervals of body sculpting exercises using your own body weight and other equipment such as dumbbells, exercise balls and weighted bars.

CONDITIONING/ABS
Sports conditioning, agility, cardio, strength mixed with a lot of abs!

CYCLING
Cycling will get the feet moving and the heart pumping by combining strength and endurance components associated with cycling. Jump, run and climb your way through a session of aerobic and anaerobic training on a stationary bike. All levels welcome.

GENTLE MOVEMENT/QUIET MIND
Using simple movement, focused breathing, relaxation techniques, and guided imagery, this class is designed to reduce the stresses in your life by focusing on your Mind, Body, Emotions and Behavior.

GENTLE YOGA
This class will be an introduction for beginners, or an easier class for those recovering from injury or who enjoy a gentler practice.

New! INTERVAL BURN
A challenging 45-minute workout that incorporates short bursts of high-intensity exercises that are followed by periods of active recovery. This class is for all fitness levels and will include a variety of cardio and strength exercises.

MUSCLE MANIA
This one hour class will work all the major muscle groups of both the upper body and lower body. Through the use of weights, body bars and other equipment in the studio, we will move consistently through all of the exercises that will hit muscles you didn’t know you had.

PILATES
A series of core-strengthening exercises in progression. Pilates is a proven way to strengthen your core, lengthen your spine and protect your lower back.

PIYO
A fun challenging class fusing Pilates and Yoga. You will burn calories, tone muscles, work on balance, and get a great stretch.

TABATA 45
This is a timed interval based class that combines cardio, strength and core power segments follwoed by a brief recovery for a quick and efficient total body workout in just 45 minutes.

TAI CHI FOR HEALTH
Using simple movement, focused breathing, relaxation techniques, and guided imagery, this class is designed to reduce the stresses in your life by focusing on your Mind, Body, Emotions and Behavior.

TRX
This is a 45-minute full-body strength workout that utilizes a person’s own body weight instead of relying on machines or dumbbells. It’s good for endurance athletes, power lifters, and fitness newbies alike. Comparable to a simple version of reformer pilates or antigravity yoga, TRX offers a total-body workout, centered on your core and relying on your body weight.

TRX EXPRESS
This class is the same as our TRX class, but only 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes.

YIN YOGA
A slow-paced style of yoga with poses that are held for longer periods of time (2-5 minutes) to target the connective tissue rather than muscles.  This is a restoraive type of yoga class where participants can look forward to sinkng into stillness and peace.

YOGA MULTI-LEVEL
In Hatha Yoga, you will learn the yoga postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayma), and deep meditation.

ZUMBA
This is a one-hour class that combines Latin, International and pop music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training — alternating fast and slow rhythms. This class gets you moving in ways you never thought you could. It’s a fun, fitness dance party and has been called “exercise in disguise.”
