Y swimmer has Olympic dreams
She had the time cut in her mind, but she wasn’t sure she’d do it this year. And then she looked up at the time on the scoreboard.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was like, Is that my time?” said Remedy Rule, who qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic swimming trials in two events, the first being the 200 backstroke, and then later adding a qualifying time in the 200 butterfly.
Rule, a freshman at Western Albemarle High School, started swimming competitively in the Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club program at the Waynesboro YMCA as a grade-schooler five years ago. Read more
Y swimmer named state swimmer of year
Remedy Rule, a freshman at Western Albemarle High School, won the 2010/11 swimmer of the year award at the Virginia Swimming awards banquet held on Oct. 2 in Richmond.
Rule was named the female swimmer of the year in the 13/14 year old age group. This is the third consecutive year she has won the award for the top swimmer in her age group in Virginia. Rule swims year-round for the Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club at the Waynesboro YMCA.
She set 21 SMAC Team Records this year, 12 in short course (25 yard pools) and 9 in long course (50 meter pools). She also broke 4 short course state records (500 free, 100 back, 200 back and 200 fly) and 5 long course state records (200 free, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly and 200 fly). She is the only 14-and-under female in Virginia to have ever swum under two minutes in the 200y back or the 200y fly. Read more
Y swimmer places sixth in national swim event
Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club swimmer Remedy Rule finished sixth in the 200-meter butterfly final in the USA Swimming Junior Nationals at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on Monday.
Rule, 14, swimming for the Waynesboro YMCA team, finished with a time of 2:12.92, 1.40 seconds behind national champion Courtney Weaver of Flint, Mich.
Rule’s time broke a Virginia state 14-and-under record for the event and is the 12th-fastest time ever for a 14-year-old swimmer.
Rule also was within the qualifying time for the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials in the 200-meter butterfly. She had already qualified for the trials and a chance to compete in the 2012 London Olympics earlier in the summer.

Y swimmer breaks state record
Waynesboro YMCA SMAC swimmer Remedy Rule finished an impressive fourth in the 500-yard freestyle final at the YMCA Nationals Short Course Championships on Tuesday.
Rule, 14, broke the 14-and-under Virginia state record in the 500 free with her time of 4:48.23, shaving .86 second off the previous state record time.
Rule was the youngest competitor in the A Final at the national meet, which was won by Taylor Katz, 16, of Sarasota, Fla., in a time of 4:43.64.
Rule had to rally in the final 50 yards to break the state-record time. Her split of 27.75 was her second-fastest 50 yards of the race.

Y athlete competes at Y Nationals Finals
Waynesboro Family YMCA SMAC swimmer Remedy Rule is competing at the 2011 YMCA Nationals Short Course Championship in Florida.
Rule, 14, has advanced as the fourth overall seed nationally in the 500-yard Freestyle and will swim in the finals at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rule also has a chance to break the Virginia state record for 14-and-under girls time of 4:49.09.

- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:06.50, eclipsing the old mark of 10:16.28 set in 2008.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:49.92, eclipsing the old mark of 1:51.42 set in 2006.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.74, eclipsing the old mark of 55.96 set in 1991.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:59.88, eclipsing the old mark of 2:01.94 set in 1991. This is also a new LSC Record in the 13-14 200 Backstroke, which bested the previous record, 2:01.94, set by Darby Chang (ODAC) in 1991.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:05.48, eclipsing the old mark of 2:06.74 set in 2008.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.94, eclipsing the old mark of 57.72 set in 1991. This is also a new LSC Record in the 13-14 100 Backstroke, which bested the previous record, 56.21, set by Jenna Brick (RAYS) in 2003.
- SC Age Group Champs Meet Record in the 13-14 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:51.58, eclipsing the old mark of 5:00.93 set in 2008.
