Sign up for the June 2 Tri for the Y

Tri-4-Y-300As a friend of the Y, I hope you’ll consider coming out to our next great event this year, the 4th Annual Tri for the Y on June 2nd! We’ve had a great time with this in the past and I think you would really enjoy the day. The proceeds from the race go to benefit the Y, and the Tri for the Y is a great opportunity to get  out for some new and different fitness on a beautiful course that winds though Waynesboro.

The event starts at the Ridgeview Park pool with a 400 meter swim, then you’ll hop on your bike for a 15 mile ride which is absolutely stunning…the ride takes you out into Stuarts Draft past the McKee factory (smelling those cakes baking halfway through the race really keeps you going!) and Waynesboro Nursey, then back to the park where you start a 5K run through the park and right past the Waynesboro Country Club.

It’s a huge sense of accomplishment to complete this Tri alone, but if you’re looking for a more low key experience or would like to compete with some friends you can also do the event as a relay! We have a few relays every year where families or groups of friends get together and split up the race…another great option for enjoying this event!

We’re offering a $10 discount if you sign up this week…just go to http://www.elevation-athletics.com and click “Register Now” to sign up and when you get to the registration page enter the code “TRI4Y2013″ to apply thediscount.

We hope to see you come out and support the Y on June 2nd. Please feel free to let me, or Lee Robertson (lee@elevation-athletics.com) know if you have any questions.

SMAC Breaks 2 Team Records Its Fall Invite At the Waynesboro Family Y

The Waynesboro Y Swim Team (SMAC), held its annual Fall Invitational at the Waynesboro Y November 17 & 18.  Emma Woodworth and Kristen Wagner set new Team Records in the 1,000 yard freestyle and the mile in the girls 10 and under division.  These are long and difficult races for any age so swimming these events and setting new SMAC records is quite an accomplishment.  The SMAC swim team has been a competitive swim team for over 40 years so anytime a new record is set it is a major accomplishment.

The following 41 SMAC swimmers participated in the meet:  Nick Alrdige (9), Alexis Brooks (15), Mackenzie Carter (13),  Megan Cross (7), Braelin Fauber (11), McKina Fitzgerald (13), Miles Fitzgerald (9), Alex Flowers (13), Colleen Higgins (14), Emma Hill (12), Sydney Hill (7), Taylor Hubbard (12), Norah Hunt (14),  Caleb Johnson (12), Ethan Johnson (10), Hannah Johnson (7), Carson Lawhorne (8), Sarah Loomis (12), Cameron Murie (11), Justin Merritt (15), Ashley Painter (9), Cody Niles (17), Ella Pickering (11), Ben Prucha (10), John Prucha (8),  Abby Prucha (7), Maggie Riggan (13), Clara Riggan (10), Charlotte Rumsey (12), Savannah Scarbrough (14), Hanna Shifflett (11), Ryan Shifflett (10), Tate Snyder (11), Madison Tegen (15), Logan Terrell (14), Elizabeth Terrell (14),  Kristen Wagner (10), Keeling Wolfe (15), Emma Woodworth (10) and Libby Young (11).

SMAC swam to over 160 lifetime best times at the meet and had approximately 60% best times overall.  The following swimmers had six or more best times: Aldridge, Fauber, McKina & Miles Fitzgerald, Sydney Hill, Caleb and Ethan Johnson, Pickering, Abby & John Prucha, Clara Riggan, Snyder, Wagner, Woodworth and Young.  The swimmers are rewarded with a new swim cap anytime they can swim 6 best times at a meet.  Congratulations to all of the swimmers on meeting this challenging goal.

The SMAC swim team is a Waynesboro Y program and practices are held at the Waynesboro Y and at Augusta Health.  The Team will be sending swimmers to Junior Nationals at the University of Tennessee, and to high level meets at Virginia Tech and in Carey, NC in the next few weeks.  For more information regarding SMAC swimming contact Coach Norm Wright, Director of Competitive Swimming at the Waynesboro Y at 942-5107 or email him at normw@smacswimming.org
