Tri for the Y 2011

The second annual Shenandoah Valley Sprint Tri for the Y has been set for Sunday, June 5, at 7 a.m. beginning at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro.

The event includes a 400-meter swim, a 14.9-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.

The triathlon, organized by Elevation Athletics, is a fundraiser for the Waynesboro YMCA and the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation. Crippen, one of the co-founders of Elevation Athletics, tragically lost his life last year in an international open-water swim race.

Registration for the Tri for the Y is now open. The event is limited to 350 participants.

Park-to-Park Half-Marathon

The third annual Park to Park Half-Marathon is set for Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Registration Fee $49 – March 18, $59 – March 19 – April 15, $69 – April 16 and on race day.

The race starts at 7 a.m.

Information luncheon to focus on heart health

Paula Tyree of Interim Healtcare will deliver a talk on “Discussing Physical and Emotional Heart Issues” at the Waynesboro YMCA on Wednesday, March 23, at noon.

The talk is cosponsored by the Waynesboro Y and the Waynesboro Senior Center in conjunction with the 2011 Big Read.

A lunch of lasagna, salad and a light dessert will be provided.

SMAC schedule: Home meet this weekend, busy month of February

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club will be hosting a dual meet with the Lynchburg YMCA on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The meet starts at 9:10 a.m., with warmups beginning at 8 a.m.
