Information luncheon to focus on heart health

Paula Tyree of Interim Healtcare will deliver a talk on “Discussing Physical and Emotional Heart Issues” at the Waynesboro YMCA on Wednesday, March 23, at noon.

The talk is cosponsored by the Waynesboro Y and the Waynesboro Senior Center in conjunction with the 2011 Big Read.

A lunch of lasagna, salad and a light dessert will be provided.

Awesome Wrestling Entertainment superstars Short Sleeve Sampson, Johnny Knockout and Robotron visited the Y at Friday Night Basketball.

SMAC schedule: Home meet this weekend, busy month of February

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club will be hosting a dual meet with the Lynchburg YMCA on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The meet starts at 9:10 a.m., with warmups beginning at 8 a.m.

AWE superstars to show off skills at Waynesboro Y

Superstars from Awesome Wrestling Entertainment will make an appearance at the Waynesboro YMCA for Friday Night Basketball Friday night at 9:30 p.m.

Short Sleeve Sampson and Robotron will lead a pep rally at the Y with free tickets for the teens and some demonstrations of live wrestling along with some breakdancing from Robotron.

Awesome Wrestling Entertainment is hosting a live event at Waynesboro High School on Saturday, Feb. 5, beginning at 6 p.m. with an autograph session with AWE stars including Carlito and Jimmy Wang Yang from WWE’s “Raw” and “Smackdown” and TNA star Sonjay Dutt. The live wrestling begins at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the establishment of a scholarship at Waynesboro High School in memory of the late Mel Morris, the longtime athletics director at WHS.

Hoop Shoot winners compete in districts

Winners of the local Waynesboro Elk Lodge Hoop Shoot recently competed in the Central Virginia District Hoop Shoot in Fredericksburg. The Waynesboro Basketball club had five members advance to this district competition. Pictured are Brie Moore, who competed in the 12-13 age category; Meredith Lloyd, who competed in the 8-9 age category; Sarah Sondrol, who competed in the 10-11 age category; and DaJuan Moore, who competed in the 10-11 age category. Kian Tate, not pictured, also competed in the 12-13 age category. Meredith Lloyd and Brie Moore won their age categories and will compete in the state competition being held in Charlottesville on Feb. 20.
